Remediation and Site Development – North Miami Beach
John Parella, P.E., Principal Engineer, Arcadis and Marc Syracuse, Senior Project Manager, Action Environmental
Co-Author: Jason Marberry, Project Manager, Action Environmental
The remediation of a Manufactured Gas Plant (MPG) site in North Miami Beach included installation of a biosparge and vapor extraction (BS/VE) system, stormwater management system and redevelopment of the site. Action excavated the top 2-feet of soils on the entire site and removed and abandoned MGP structures and piping. The entire project was conducted on an active site with minimal disruptions to the business onsite. The project included:
Accomplishments: Excavation under water to remove DNPL product from around and under concrete structure from the old MPG structures. Issues/Resolutions: Encountered unknown large concrete vaults filled with tar and large monolithic concrete structures. Action brought in crews to remove tar and clean vaults.
